Governor Martyn Roper has shared a message from the Queen to the Cayman Islands, as the jurisdiction observes Constitution Day.
Noting this year marks the 63rd anniversary of the Islands’ first constitution, the Queen offered her congratulations to the Premier and “good wishes to the people of the Cayman Islands”.
“As we overcome global health challenges together, with determination and fortitude, may we look to better times in the future,” she said in the statement.
Governor Martyn Roper shared his own message, in celebration of the annual public holiday.
He noted, “On Constitution Day, we should reflect on the institutions that support our democracy, freedoms and rights. Events in other parts of the world, particularly Ukraine, underline that we should not take these for granted. In the Cayman Islands, we can all give thanks for the relative peace, tranquillity and stability that we enjoy.”
He also shared an image of the Cayman Islands flag flying atop the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in London on Monday morning.
