Police on Friday arrested a 30-year-old man who is wanted for murder in Jamaica.
According to police, shortly before 12:30 pm, Rudolph Almando Shaw was arrested in Seymour Road, George Town, after the car he was travelling in rammed a police vehicle. He has since been formally processed and will be handed over to Customs and Border Control.
Police said the authorities in Jamaica have been notified.
The arrest was made after Firearms Response Unit officers in a marked police car approached a vehicle with two people inside, including Shaw.
The men tried to escape and rammed into the police car, disabling their vehicle.
Armed officers approached and tried to detain the men, who attempted to flee. Police captured the wanted man, but the other escaped on foot.
The man sought by police is described as approximately 5 feet, 9 inches in height, of slim build and dark complexion, with short hair, and was wearing blue jeans and a white sleeveless shirt.
Detective Superintendent Peter Lansdown said, “The Cayman Islands is not a safe haven for criminals. We are working with our colleagues in Jamaica on this case and believe the man arrived on island by boat. An active search is underway to locate and arrest the other person. It’s a criminal offence to aid or assist a person who is wanted by the authorities, including those who are here illegally.’’
Police are warning that anyone harbouring the wanted man would be committing an offence under the Police Act, which carries penalties of a fine of up to $5,000 or imprisonment for two years, or both.
The RCIPS is asking anyone with information about the men to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222 or dial 9-1-1. Anonymous tips can also be provided directly to the RCIPS via the Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, or via the website.
