Cayman swimmers finished day two at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a couple of personal best times inside the Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Birmingham, England.
James Allison outperformed seven other competitors in his 200 metre freestyle, ending his heat over a second faster than the second place finisher. Allison, 16, clocked in at 1:54.14, which was a new personal best.
“I saw the crowd when I was walking out and I just had so much adrenaline running through,” Allison said after his race. “It’s all a learning experience and I’ll defiantly make sure that I’ll be better next time.”
Teammate Sierrah Broadbelt also won her heat in convincing fashion, recording a new personal best time of 28.13 in the 50m free.

The 13-year-old Caymanian, who is the youngest in the national squad, said she was happy to have been given the opportunity to represent her country at the highest level.
“My two main goals for this meet was to PB and win my heat, which I both did,” Broadbelt said. “It means a lot and I think I did really good.”
Closing it off for Cayman on Saturday, was Kyra Rabess who swam heat six of the 50m free. She finished with a time of 27.29 seconds.
The swimmers’ times did not qualify them for the next round.

Great performances by all our swimmers against their contemporaries. I’ve been watching coverage in the U.K. on BBC, and the commentator in one race was astonished by one of our swimmers, finishing more than half a length in front of the field and recording, he said, a PB by more than 7 seconds!.
