There is no question that the Cayman Drama Society does comedies well, which means audiences will be in for a treat with the upcoming production of Ray Cooney’s ‘Funny Money’, running Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11-20 Aug.
This hilarious farce premiered at The Churchill Theatre in Bromley, UK, in 1994, followed by a successful two-year run in the West End. The story begins with a simple ‘case’ of misidentification, when middle-aged Henry Perkins picks up the wrong briefcase on the London Underground, as he makes his way home for a birthday dinner with his wife and friends.

When he realises that the briefcase he is carrying isn’t his, he opens it, only to find £735,000 inside. Does he plan to keep it or turn it over to the police? Where did the money come from? Was this just a birthday gift from the gods?
All these questions are answered and more in a plot that involves mistake identities, dubious characters, questionable morals and a number of people who are very interested indeed in tracking down the newly-popular Perkins.
Featuring a stellar local cast, ‘Funny Money’ will offer some welcome laughs and a great night out.
‘Funny Money’ is on stage at the Prospect Playhouse Theatre Thursdays-Saturdays from 11-20 Aug. (not 4-6 Aug., as originally advertised), with doors opening at 6:30pm and curtain at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students (the show is rated PG-16 for adult content and language). Run time is 1 hour and 45 minutes. Buy tickets online at www.cds.ky.
