Cayman Islands citizens hail from more than 90 different countries across the globe, according to data from the census. There are currently 36,808 Caymanians living on the island – just over half of the total population.
Of those, only 60% were actually born in Cayman and more than 14,000 are also citizens of other countries.
The UK and Jamaica are the most common second nationalities for Caymanians, followed by the US, Canada and Honduras. Those figures include Caymanians born overseas but are primarily long-time guest workers who have first gained permanent residency and then Caymanian status.
The islands’ population gets even more diverse when guest workers are factored into the mix. A total of 162 different nationalities – almost every country in the world – are represented.
More than 17,000 people – around a quarter of the islands’ total population – were born in Cayman’s closest neighbour, Jamaica.
The Philippines is the next highest represented nation, with almost 4,000 people from the southeast Asian country currently residing in Cayman. The UK is third highest with more than 3,600 British-born residents on island.
