It had been so long since I had visited Seven restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton, that I’d forgotten about its terrific happy hour deal.
Best friend Lynne and I reacquainted ourselves with it just this week, and not only was it as good as we remembered – it also had some new items on the menu.
Here’s the skinny: From 5-7pm, every day of the week, the Seven bar has a special menu, where everything on it is $8 per item (plus grats). That includes delicious handmade cocktails, bar snacks (and I ain’t talking potato chips) and sommelier-chosen wines by the glass.

From the Shade of Jade beverage with London Dry Gin to the Candied Popcorn Old Fashioned, the tempting tipples are all worth trying in order to find your favourite. I’ll admit, I was disappointed to find that my go-to from the past was no longer listed, but hey – I’m not a quitter. A rum fan, I chose the Around the World with Flor de Caña, St-Germain and fresh apple juice. It was delish, and… $8!
Lynne got a glass of very nice red wine, and we both ordered food. I had the Seven Slider with truffle, bacon and aged cheddar, along with decadent Truffle Mac & Cheese (don’t judge me), and Lynne got the Yucca Fries and Ahi Tuna Tartar with wonton chips. Again, the dishes were $8 each and they were substantial enough that two or three were enough to fill us nicely.
Bartenders Arlen and Jacob really looked after us, while moving like a well-oiled machine to keep up with orders. Lynne – who arrived shivering like the little match girl after coming from an over-air-conditioned office – suddenly had thoughtful server Eamon presenting her with a pashmina to help her warm up, complete with an offer of hot tea.

That’s the wonderful thing about this happy hour – you get all that wonderful Ritz-Carlton service, with top-notch food and drinks, for a very nice price.
So, the next time you’re off the clock, head to Seven, pull up a chair at the bar, and start indulging. I’m not sure I should be sharing this well-kept secret, but it would be selfish to keep it all to myself.
Cheers!
