Surging seas battered Grand Cayman’s south coast Monday morning, as Hurricane Ian passed close to the island.
Residents posted videos of waves leaping over sea walls, docks submerged by the rising waters and roads strewn with debris.
Aside from some damage to coastal property, the island appeared to have escaped the worst impacts of the storm, which is expected to morph into a major hurricane as it advances towards Cuba and on to Florida.

There were no reports of any storm related injuries and almost all of the island maintained power throughout.
