Man injured, dog killed in West Bay shooting

A man was wounded in the leg and a dog was killed in a shooting in West Bay early Thursday morning.

Police and other emergency services were dispatched to a report of several shots fired at an address in the Birch Tree Hill area shortly before 12:15am.

During the shooting, a man at the address sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was transported by private vehicle to hospital where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

A dog in the yard was also shot and killed, police said.

The Firearms Response Unit attended the scene and after carrying out a search of the area, declared it safe for investigators to process, the RCIPS said in a statement.

The shooting is being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department.

This was the fourth recent firearm-related incident, with three others happening in the space of 24 hours last weekend.

In the most serious of those shootings, a man received multiple gunshot wounds in a shootout on West Bay Road, near Lime Tree Bay, West Bay, around 4am Saturday.

No suspects have been detained in relation to that incident.
