Cayman athletes Victor Magalhaes and Kevin Connolly finished their road-racing competitions at the 2022 Caribbean Cycling Championships on Sunday, 23 Oct.

“Despite the sweltering conditions, the Elite/U23 race pace was very high, with the first few laps averaging 28-30mph+,” Cayman Cycling wrote on their Facebook page.

Cayman Cycling noted that at the start of the race, both local athletes were ahead of the pack. However, Connolly’s day was cut short after a crash on lap four.

“With riders going down in front of him… he could do nothing to avoid [crashing]” which resulted in mechanical issues “forcing him to retire”.

Magalhaes “stayed engaged with the main peloton for most of the race but missed out on a late split, ultimately finishing solidly, a few minutes off the winners in 13th place”, Cayman Cycling said.
