Deputy Police Commissioner of Kurt Walton is calling on motorists to adhere to the rules of the road as he lamented that collisions on Cayman’s roads crossed the 2,400 mark for the year to date.

Walton, speaking on Wednesday’s episode of the Cayman Compass Facebook talkshow The Resh Hour, said the collision figure of 2,447 was “staggering” and a matter of grave concern for the RCIPS.

He warned that police will be on the lookout for errant drivers on the roads as the RCIPS formally commences its Winter Guardian operation on 1 December.

Saying it was “unacceptable,” Walton added that no-one will escape if they are found guilty of driving under the influence.

Sergeant Lenford Butler, also speaking on the show, said the team at the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit are mobilising for the annual crackdown and he is urging drivers to be mindful that new drink driving limits are in effect.

“Please do not drink and drive,” he said.
