Police are today investigating three armed robberies which occurred within minutes of each other in George Town on Thursday night.
The latest spate of robberies has prompted a warning from Superintendent Peter Lansdown who has urged the community to exercise caution when withdrawing cash at night following two of the three robberies that took place.
“Our enquiries have revealed that the first and third incident occurred shortly after the victims had attended ATMs. We are advising the public to exercise caution and vigilance when conducting financial transactions, especially withdrawing cash during night time hours,” he said in a press release issued Friday afternoon.
Lansdown is calling on the public to report any suspicious activity, whether by people or vehicles, by contacting 9-1-1.
“We are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the perpetrators, any information provided could be of help,” he added.
Police, in the press release, said all three incidents are under investigation with “detectives pursuing all lines of inquiry, including whether the incidents are linked”.
Robberies committed in succession
The first of the three robberies occurred at 7:50pm outside a residence in the Prospect area.
Police said a woman had just parked at the location when a masked man approached her vehicle, brandished a firearm and demanded cash. He fled on foot, escaping with a quantity of cash.
The suspect is described as of slim build, about 5’6” tall and light brown in complexion, and appeared to be in his early 20s. He was wearing a black hoodie, shorts, a black mask and gloves.
Shortly after that incident, around 8:35pm, a masked man brandishing a firearm entered a bar on Boilers Road, George Town and demanded money from the workers there. The man then fled with a quantity of cash he took from the registers and the workers.
Police said the suspect was of slim build, about 5’7”-5’8” in height.
He was wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, shades, and a black mask.
Police were later alerted to a third armed robbery at 8:50pm outside a residence in the Smith Road area of George Town.
Police said a woman had just parked her vehicle when a masked man approached her brandishing a firearm and demanding cash. The man fled with a bank card belonging to the woman.
He is described as being of slim build and about 5’8” tall. He was wearing a mask, dark hoodie, blue jeans, and shades.
