Jordan Crooks finished his 100 metres finals at the FINA World Swimming Championships in 45.77 seconds – enough for sixth place.
Although Crooks didn’t medal, as many had hoped, he proved that he is among the fastest professional swimmers competing today on the global stage.
Crooks initially entered the 100m finals in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday, 15 Dec. with the fastest qualifying time of 45.55 following the semi-finals, putting him ahead of Olympic medallist Kyle Chalmers and defending champion Alessandro Miressi as he lined up for the final event.
If Crooks had been able to reproduce that semi-final winning time in the final, the University of Tennessee standout would have earned himself a bronze medal.
Ultimately, Australian Chalmers would secure the gold medal, with France’s Maxime Grousset taking silver and Italian Miressi the bronze.
However, Crooks still has a chance at a podium finish. He is scheduled to compete in heat six of the 50m free at 8:24pm (local time) today.
