Cayman Islands swimmer Jordan Crooks has qualified for the finals of the 50-metre freestyle event at the FINA World Swimming Championships in Melbourne, Australia.
Crooks, 20, clocked 20.31 seconds at his semi-final race, held early morning Cayman time today, to enter the finals as the top seed and once again the favourite to win gold.
His new national 50m record mirrored his 100m performances earlier in the championships, where he also advanced with the fastest time.
The University of Tennessee sophomore’s time catapults him into the top-five performers of all time in the 50m. Prior to that, he was ranked 114th. Crooks will compete in the 50m finals on Saturday at 5:39am Cayman time.
