Arrested fugitive Marcus Manderson bitten by police dog

Fugitive Marcus Manderson was bitten by a police K-9 dog during his arrest following an armed police operation in George Town Thursday morning.

Manderson, 33, has been on the run since he absconded from court bail last year. He was convicted, in absentia, for possession of an unlicensed firearm, on 2 Dec. last year.

Police arrested him shortly after 10:40am Friday at a residence in the Washington Boulevard area of George Town. During the operation, officers recovered a loaded firearm on the premises.

The RCIPS said Manderson received a bite from a police K-9 during the arrest.

He was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment and was later discharged into police custody.

A 24-year-old woman, of George Town, was also arrested on suspicion of defeating the course of justice, for assisting Manderson in evading the police.

On 20 Dec. last year, the RCIPS issued an appeal to the public to help locate Manderson, whom they believed had returned to Cayman after earlier leaving the island on a boat.

At the time, police said Manderson was believed to be “armed and dangerous”.
