Police are appealing for the public’s help to locate Marcus Steve Manderson, a convicted gunman who skipped bail ahead of his scheduled sentencing next month.
“Manderson was found guilty on 2 December, 2022 (in absentia), following a Grand Court trial for Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm,” said a brief statement from the RCIPS released Tuesday evening.
“Manderson had absconded Court bail and was believed to have left the Island via boat. Investigators strongly believe he recently returned to the Cayman Islands and is being housed by various persons in the community. He is due to be sentenced in January 2023,” the statement said.
The public has been cautioned against approaching Manderson, who is considered to be armed and dangerous, and have been urged to contact police if they encounter him.
“Investigators are encouraging anyone with information about the whereabouts of this man to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222 or dial 9-1-1, specifically if the circumstances are time sensitive,” said police in their statement. “Manderson, having been convicted of a serious criminal offence, is considered to be a fugitive evading the criminal justice process.”
Police have are also reminded the public that anyone caught aiding or harbouring him is likely to be charged and could face a “lengthy prison sentence” upon conviction.
