Three Caymanian track-and-field athletes closed out February with top performances for their respective US universities.
From taking gold to completing personal best runs, Louis Gordon, Rasheem Brown and Shalysa Wray exceeded against top athletes at their latest major indoor meets.
Wray, an Olympian and a Kansas State University junior, got off to a good start at the KSU Steve Miller Invitational on 17 Feb. She won the 60-metre finals at that event in 7.47 seconds, before taking gold in the 200m in a personal best time of 23.69.
She went on to compete in the Big 12 Indoor Championships, which took place 24-25 Feb., where she placed sixth in the 400m finals, crossing the line at 53.20. She also took ninth in 4×400 at 3:43.09.
Fellow runner Brown, who is a senior at the University of Tennessee, enjoyed success at the 2023 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which were also held from 24-25 Feb.
The inaugural Caribbean Championships 110m gold medallist secured silver in the 60m hurdles, clocking 7.72 seconds.
Long jumper Gordon finished the month with a leap of 7.41m at the 2023 America East Indoor Championships, earning the University at Albany junior a gold medal.
