While football is a team sport, Elite SC’s Molly Kehoe goal-scoring performance at the 2022-23 Cayman Islands Football Association President’s Cup was something to behold.
Elite defeated Scholars to win the President’s Cup last month, with Kehoe taking the golden boot honours for the tournament with the most goals scored at nine.
The 18-year-old, who is a Cayman Islands national team starter, was the only player to score for her team during the cup tournament, which began in November and was scheduled around league matches.
“I put a lot of pressure on myself, and I try to hold the team on my back and I guess that’s how I score all the goals,” Kehoe told the Compass.
Kehoe has now experienced the joy of lifting both the CIFA Charity Shield and Presidents Cup since transferring from Sunset FC at the start of the season.
Elite’s head coach Martha Godet said Kehoe is a talented forward but noted that her teammates are to be credited for her success.
“The cup is prestigious for us,” Godet said. “All the hard work they are put in, they are consistent, and we are building good teamwork, team effort and we do socials to get the team together and that makes a huge difference.”
Kehoe agreed, saying, “I couldn’t score any of the goals without them.”
She is now preparing to play football in Florida this August and hopes to be scouted for a team in the UK.
