(GEORGE TOWN, CAYMAN ISLANDS) MARCH 07, 2023 On Thursday, March 2, RBC Royal Bank officially launched the first-ever in-person Cayman edition of RBC Race for the Kids – a 5-kilometre charity run/walk event that will take place on Sunday, April 16, 2023.

“I am pleased to share that the Cayman RBC Race for the Kids event will benefit the Alex Panton Foundation, also known as APF, a Non-Profit Organisation dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues affecting children and young adults in the Cayman Islands, with a particular focus on anxiety and depression,” said Ericka Rolle, Area Vice President – Personal Banking and Country Head for RBC Royal Bank, Cayman Islands. “Being present and active in the communities we serve is central to RBC’s purpose of helping our clients thrive and communities prosper. That’s why we are so proud to be hosting the first ever in person Cayman edition of RBC Race for the Kids this April,” added Rolle.

APF was established in memory of Alex Panton, who in 2010 tragically succumbed to the effects of severe depression, at the age of 16. The Alex Panton Foundation aims to provide hope and resources to friends, family, teachers, and classmates to help save the lives of children and young adults struggling with mental illness.

Speaking on behalf of the Alex Panton Foundation, Rhonda Kelly, a sitting APF board member, expressed gratitude and excitement about the upcoming event and ensuing partnership.

“The funds raised will go directly to the foundation’s Financial Assistance Programme and will result in a positive difference for Cayman youth – helping them find peace and hope as they navigate their mental health challenges,” Kelly shared.

“One of the most important resources that is needed for those struggling with their mental health is access to counselling and therapy services. In 2020, the Foundation launched the Financial Assistance Programme in partnership with local private mental health providers. Providers who enter an agreement with APF work with us to secure financial aid for the young people in our community who are in immediate need of assistance but have insufficient or no insurance coverage. This programme is available to individuals up to 30 years of age and has helped over 90 individuals get the support they need since it was introduced,” she explained.

RBC Race for the Kids is a global series of charitable running events benefiting children and youth- focused causes.
