Cyclist killed in early morning hit-and-run collision

Police are investigating an early morning hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a cyclist along West Bay Road.

In a statement released by the RCIPS on Wednesday, 8 March, a spokesperson confirmed that the fatal collision occurred shortly before 1am in the vicinity of Queen’s Court Plaza involving a Jeep Cherokee and an electric bicycle.

“The Jeep and bicycle collided and the driver of the Jeep continued to drive from the scene,” said the spokesperson. “The Jeep was later found parked further north along West Bay Road, with the driver having fled the scene.”

Officers later located the driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old man, of West Bay, said police.

“He was breath-tested with a positive result and subsequently arrested. He remains in custody as investigations continue,” the RCIPS said.
