Siblings Matheo and Allie Capasso hit the water last month at the Nacra 15 Sailing World Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, holding their own against international competition.
The Nacra15 – a two-person boat event held for the first time in the US – featured 19 races taking place over five days, with some of the world’s best sailors.
“We are quite pleased with how it went,” said Matheo, who attends Tulane University in New Orleans. “We work together in the boat very well and really seemed to gel as the week went on.”
The Capasso duo got off to a slow start, finishing in the top 20 four times in the first two days.
However, the pair found their form, and were delighted with a strong finish, achieving five top-10 places in the final two days.
Their performance earned them 14th place overall and seventh in their under-19 category.
“We were super excited to have those solid finishes later in the week. Allie and I are feeling lucky to be well positioned. We are grateful for the support we have from our home club, the Cayman Islands Sailing Club.”
