After a three-year hiatus, the annual Cayman Brac Agriculture Show returns this Saturday, with record crowds expected to attend.
The Agriculture Show grounds on Songbird Drive were abuzz with activity Friday morning as Public Works employees, along with local farmers and vendors, readied the area.

Chevala Burke, chairperson of the Agriculture Show Organising Committee, said preparations are in full swing.
“It’s three years since we’ve last been here. We have some new vendors coming on board, some new food stalls, so everybody’s very excited about that. We’re all just really anxious to see that the show gets off really well. We have a lot of officials coming to join us. The governor will be here for his farewell visit, so we’re very excited,” she said.
The show, now in its 17th year, will include a special Brac Youth Cook-off, live entertainment from J.R Douglas Band, N.10.C.T Dance Crew, the Cadet Corps and more. The event will also feature animal displays, a domino competition and scavenger hunt.
Participants will get an opportunity to take part in both an RCIPS and Fire Service ride-along.
Burke said the return of the show gives the local community a chance to showcase all that is Cayman Brac.

She said Friday’s work included the final preparation of the grounds, as a lot of tents were being installed ahead of possible inclement weather.
Picnic tents with seating have also been set up and staff from the Public Works Department were clearing the area.
Local artist and PWD worker Wendy Valera was busy painting animals on booths as well as a welcome sign to greet visitors.
She said she was happy to be part of the event.

The grounds have been transformed into competition central as farmers prepare to show off their livestock and produce for top prizes.
At this year’s show, residents will compete for bragging rights in categories including best hot sauce, cake, painting and needlework. There is even a Lego-making category.
Officials from the Department of Agriculture were on hand Friday accepting entries for the various produce contests.
Edna Platts came early with her entries for the backyard garden contest.
Though the competition will be tough, it always is friendly and Platts said she is looking forward to showing off her prized cherry tomatoes, June plums and beans.

“I’m very happy about it [coming back], we’ve missed it a lot,” she said.
The show runs from 8am to 4pm.
Burke also had a special message for those on Grand Cayman.
“Cayman Airways leaves early [Saturday] morning [so] you have an opportunity to come on over and join us and you can go right back up in the afternoon if you have other commitments… [I]t’s been three years… it’s going to be a lot of fun and a lot to enjoy,” she said.
Tickets cost $10 for adults (11 & up) and $4 per child (3 & up), with kids under 3 free.
