Caymanian sailor Charlotte Webster won silver at the Cyprus National Championships in the Women’s Open Laser sailing class over the Easter weekend.
The eastern Mediterranean island nation provided warm weather and strong winds for the four-day event.
The National Championship ILCA 6 2023 Regatta in Limassol, Cyprus, was organised by the Cyprus Sailing Federation.

Webster, a first-year student at University of Exeter in the UK, has recently been confirmed as the Cayman Islands representative at this summer’s 24th Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador, and the 2023 Sailing World Championships in the Hague, Netherlands.

“Training and racing in Cyprus has been hard work but worth the effort,” Webster said in a statement. “My starts were improving, but the 22 knot strong winds on the final day led to a couple of capsizes where I lost places on the racecourse.
“My focus now is on the French Olympic Week regatta next week on the Cote D’Azure, as I continue my training and racing program, with the goal of qualifying for the Olympics next year in Paris at the upcoming PanAm Games this October.”
She added, “I’d like to thank my parents, sponsors, coaches, the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee, the Sailing Club, and the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Culture & Heritage for all of their support.”

Webster is now in Hyères, France, for more training before taking part in the Semaine Olympique Française on 21-29 April, and then returning to Exeter for the start of term.
She plans to come back to Cayman for training ahead of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games on 16 June.
