Community offered chance to question ministers

Bryan: Topics to include referendums, traffic and tourism

Government ministers will be updating the public about their portfolios at a meeting on the George Town waterfront on Thursday, 20 April.

Following the event, which will be held in the car park between the Royal Watler Cruise Terminal and the Sandbar restaurant from 7pm to 9pm, residents will have the opportunity to mix with the ministers, ask questions and voice their concerns.

Minister of Tourism and Ports Kenneth Bryan, who is the government representative for George Town Central, is hosting what he calls his “midterm grade card”.

“There’s going to be some pretty good announcements at this meeting,” he said on Radio Cayman on Friday, 14 April, adding that the focus will not just be on his constituency.

Bryan said the meeting will act as a teaser to the opening of Parliament on 26 April where ministers will present the Strategic Policy Statement outlining plans for the next two years.

“It’s about reporting what we’ve done, where we’ve come from, how well the country is doing, what issues we’re focusing on, what plans we have to solve many of the issues.”

Bryan said discussion topics will include the marijuana and gambling referendums, traffic, tourism, financial services, beautification and garbage collection.

He also said he will offer the first look at plans for Central Scranton Park, including design work and a 3D drawing.

“As you can imagine, a whole lot has happened since we took office,” he said, “so there’s a lot to talk about – where we were, where we’ve come to and what the future will hold.”

He added, “I’m encouraging everyone from across the island to come and attend the meeting.”
