Material Girls, a Canada-based tribute band of megastar divas, will take to the Taste of Cayman main stage to cap off a day of culinary delights with some of the top hits of Madonna, Cher, Adele and Lady Gaga.
Organisers this week announced the musical line-up for the food festival on Saturday, 13 May, which will include local rock and roll band The Fabulous 68s, singer-songwriter Dan Ebanks, and DJ Rion Kirk.
Taste of Cayman, back after a three-year hiatus, has over the past several years featured tribute bands, such as Simply Queen, who played at the last festival, in 2019.
This year’s act is the ultimate tribute band of female vocalists, embodying the personas of Grammy Award-winners Madonna, Cher, Adele and Lady Gaga. Collectively, they perform together as the Material Girls, who cover the best songs from prominent female artists through the decades.
Cayman Islands Tourism Association executive director, Jay Ehrhart, said in a statement announcing the line-up that Material Girls is the perfect addition to this year’s Taste of Cayman festival.
“In years past, we’ve had some incredible live performances, and this year is no exception. These four diva tribute performances just confirm how epic of an event we’re planning for Taste of Cayman’s grand return. I’m extremely excited to hear the fantastic songs they’ll be performing – and I’m sure the crowd will [be] too,” he said.
Entertainment on the main stage kicks off at 7:30pm with the Fabulous 68s, a multi-instrument rock-and-roll band led by lead singer and guitarist Chris Sanchez. The band features a mix of brass, string and percussion instruments, providing covers of popular rock songs.
Next up will be Dan Ebanks, formerly known as Danny Loops, with his distinctive sound and unique performance style of presenting as a full band using a live looping station.
Then just before the main act, DJ Rion Kirk will present a mixed music set. He is no stranger to Cayman’s entertainment scene, and is known for his crowd-pleasing blend of Caribbean rhythms and contemporary beats.
The Materials Girls performance starts at 10pm as the grand finale entertainment feature of the night.
Aside from the main stage music lineup, Taste of Cayman will feature additional performances throughout the evening.
A celebration of Cayman’s youth and culture through song and dance takes place at the All Things Cayman area, including performances from CayPop, Phoenix Singh, Red Bay Primary School, Cayman Youth Choir, Dreamchasers Cayman, and the Cayman Island Folk Singers.
Organisers describe All Things Cayman as “a core entertainment element of this annual event as festival-goers can experience traditional Caymanian performances, kept alive and proudly showcased by artists like this year’s line-up”.
Taste of Cayman runs from 5pm to 11pm on Saturday, 13 May.
