Drug arrests made in Cayman Brac

Police in Cayman Brac have arrested two men for cocaine-related offences.

The arrests, which are unrelated to each other, are said to have occurred in response to tips from the public.

According to police, the first arrest was made on Wednesday, 10 May, at Watering Place Park. The suspect, a 46-year-old man, was also wanted for an outstanding warrant.

“Officers attended the location and found the man in possession of items which contained suspected cocaine and ganja,” said police in a statement issued on Thursday, 18 May.

“The man… was arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine and ganja, in addition to the outstanding warrant,” added police.

He has since been transported to Grand Cayman.

The second arrest is said to have occurred on Saturday, 13 May, shortly before 10:30pm, at an event outside a bar on Watering Place Road during a police patrol.

“Officers approached the man and observed him to be in possession of what appeared to be cocaine and a drug utensil,” said police.

The suspect, a 42-year-old man of Cayman Brac, is said to have resisted the arrest in an attempt to escape police. He was, however, eventually subdued and taken into custody on suspicion of possession of cocaine and a drug utensil and resisting arrest.

He has since been released on bail.

“We take the public’s concerns about illegal drug use in Cayman Brac seriously,” said Chief Inspector Malcolm Kay, Area Commander for the Sister Islands.

“These arrests are part of our ongoing drug enforcement strategy, as we work together with our partners to reduce the prevalence and impact of drugs in our community.”
