Heavy rainfall experienced in Grand Cayman Wednesday morning is expected to continue until at least Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service noted that the heavy showers will lead to flooding in low-lying areas. Flooding was already being reported in a number of locations across Grand Cayman Wednesday morning, including at the Humane Society in George Town.

The shelter, in a social media post, said its puppy/dog quarantine room was flooding and it appealed for foster homes for three puppies, to be housed together, and four separate fosters for the dogs in quarantine.
Meteorologist Shamal Clarke, with the National Weather Service, said the current weather is due to the interaction between an upper level trough and lot of surface moisture over the northwest Caribbean.
“The upper level trough is maintaining and is expected to continue supporting isolated to scattered showers through at least Friday morning,” he said.

As of 10:30am, he said, 1.6 inches (40mm) of rainfall had been recorded over the previous six hours.
“Given the expectation of rainfall and showers to continue over the next 24 hours, there remains the likelihood for continued isolated flooding scenarios with the possibility of an additional 10 to 15 mm (0.4 inches) of rainfall,” he added.
Radar images are showing scattered showers in and around the Cayman area drifting towards the northeast.
The National Weather Service says cloudy to overcast skies with intermittent showers are expected for most of Wednesday, with thunderstorms likely to occur in the afternoon.
Overnight Wednesday, cloudy skies are expected, with a 60% chance of showers and possible thunder.
