Young Caymanian Justin Hastings produced a fine display in the first golf tournament of the 2023 Grant Thornton Summer Series on 3-4 June at the North Sound Golf Club. Defending his 2022 win in the ranked division of the first tournament of the series, Hastings compiled rounds of 65, 66 and 68 for a 14-under par total to win the event by nine strokes over Andrew Jarvis, with Aaron Jarvis a further two strokes back in third.

Hastings, 19, has just completed the second year of his US collegiate golf career at San Diego State University and has had an exceptional start to 2023 with three top-10 finishes in his nine starts, including finishing runner-up at the R.E.L.

Invitational at San Diego Country Club in March 2023. The World Amateur Golf Ranking points from this event will see Hastings move up from his current ranking of 268 in the world.

In the non-ranked division, Marcus McCarey finished in first place, with Joe Curley and Glenn Whewell in second and third, respectively, and Barry Daly collected the net division prize.

“We had an exceptionally strong field this weekend with both Justin and Aaron back for their summer break. It is great to see such a high level of competitive golf being produced right here in Cayman. A massive thanks to Grant Thornton for giving all players who participated the opportunity to develop their games and for these top young amateurs to move up in the world rankings,” says Giles Hobday, tournament coordinator.
