Cayman’s got talent. A lot of it.
The work of many artists across several genres – from painting and sculpture to metalwork, and multi-media – was on display throughout the annual Cayman Art Week.
Art lovers, some of whom were transported by buses on three separate tours over three days, had a chance to visit the surprisingly numerous local studios and galleries, some of which are tucked away in side streets in neighbourhoods dotted around Cayman.
Natalie Urquhart, founder and creative director of Cayman Art Week, said one of the goals for the event was to “introduce new audiences and collectors to the local art scenes, so it was great to see hundreds of people out exploring and enjoying the exhibitions and events”.
More than 30 galleries and studios, as well as pop-up venues, were open to the public, featuring the work of dozens of artists.
Residents and visitors, all on a mission to soak up the sights of some of Cayman’s best artists, also got literally soaked as they braved torrential downpours, but they soldiered through and were rewarded with a feast of colour, originality and inspiration.
“The breadth and standard of talent on display this week shows how Cayman is establishing itself as a creative hub and we look forward to growing Cayman Art Week into an event with international standing in the years to come,” Urquhart said.
She added, “We are grateful for the support of our sponsors who share our vision for Cayman Art Week and would like to congratulate all the artists and galleries who put on such a wonderful show.”
