Committee Heads, Brian Ryan and Cassandra Fish-Myles – (L-R)

Ocorian’s Cayman Islands office has formally re-established its student training and development programme. The programme is open to Caymanian students who have completed high school and are embarking on tertiary education – locally or overseas – with a keen interest in professional and legal services.

Programme background

The student training and development programme in Ocorian’s Cayman Islands office aims to provide students with an opportunity to experience the day-to-day operations of a business in the fast-paced financial and legal services industry. Placements are available in the below areas.

  • Legal
  • Corporate
  • Funds
  • Capital Markets
  • Private Client
  • Business Support (compliance, finance and operations)

Each student will be paired with a mentor, offering expert support and guidance during their time at Ocorian.

Committee Head and Assistant Manager of Legal Operations, Brian Ryan said: “I’m extremely pleased to see this programme come to fruition. Ocorian has a long history in the Cayman Islands, and it’s time we formally share our expertise and knowledge with young Caymanian students who are interested in a career within the financial and legal services industry.”

Opportunities for all

Ocorian will offer paid student internships, which will run on an annual basis for 4-week periods between May and September. For 2023, the deadline for our paid student internships will be 12 August.

For students aged 16 and over in a year 12 programme, Ocorian will also offer work experience opportunities on a rolling basis throughout each year. This emphasizes careful collaboration with local institutions, such as the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre, the University College of the Cayman Islands and Cayman Finance.

Applications can be made via the careers section of our website at www.ocorian.com/careers.

Alternatively, relevant queries and submissions including a cover letter and resume can be made via email at [email protected].

A successful beginning

Local college student, Abigail Ebanks, participated in Ocorian’s student training and development programme in May 2023.

Abigail spent time in Ocorian’s business support, legal and private client departments. Not only was she exposed to the inner workings of our business, but she also received valuable guidance on career path options and soft skills, such as office etiquette and resume writing.

Intern, Abigail Ebanks said: “I leave Ocorian with a much greater understanding of how the industry operates in the Cayman Islands. I never thought so many functions were interconnected – I was shown the value of collaboration and teamwork.”

Committee Co-Head and Trust Manager, Cassandra Fish-Myles said: “We are delighted with the positive feedback from Abigail and look forward to providing this experience to others going forward. We hope that our engagement with local students provides valuable industry insight and serves as an anchor whilst they progress in their education.”
