Six students and one adult were taken to hospital Friday afternoon following a collision between a John Gray High School bus and truck near the Red Bay Primary School.
According to 911 officials initial reports suggest that the children and the adult were taken to the Cayman Islands hospital with minor injuries.
Police are currently on the scene of the collision.
The incident happened around 3:15pm on Shamrock Road, George Town.
The RCIPS, in an emailed response to Cayman Compass queries, said, the students and driver of the bus were assessed by medical personnel who attended the scene, and a handful of students were transported to hospital to be further assessed for minor injuries.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
Police said both drivers were breath-tested with negative result.
The matter is under investigation.
John Gray High School Principal Jonathan Clarke, in a message to parents and staff Friday afternoon, said, the school received reports of the collision between “one of our school buses and a large articulated lorry as the bus was heading towards Prospect outside Red Bay Primary school this afternoon”.
He said that he is awaiting official reports as police and ambulances are on the scene.
“My initial understanding is that no students are seriously hurt but they are obviously very shaken, and have been evacuated safely from the bus,” his message said.
