A 55-year-old-man from Bodden Town has been remanded in custody after being charged with attempted burglary.
Jeff Pandohie Powell was arrested the day after the alleged incident took place on Manse Road in Bodden Town on Wednesday, 2 Aug., and charged on Friday, 4 Aug. with the offence.
He was held in custody and appeared before Magistrate Angelyn Hernandez in Summary Court on Monday, 7 Aug.
Powell elected for the matter to be heard in Summary Court and was remanded in custody to reappear in court on 10 Aug. for a mention.
Hernandez heard several other matters in Summary Court the same morning.
She gave Roberto Alden Jackson a six-month suspended sentence and ordered him to pay an $800 fine for taking more than the daily limit of conch.
The prosecution explained that on Thursday, 24 Nov., conservation officers were patrolling the North Sound.
At about 2pm, they spotted a small blue boat with Jackson and a female on board. He was seen jumping off the boat holding a red bag and returning empty-handed.
The officers signalled for him to stop, they spoke with him and retrieved the red bag. Inside they found 30 conch shells.
They found another 10 conch shells in the boat, breaking the daily limit of five conch, so he was arrested and charged.
In another matter, Chris Mitchell Eden, who is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and common assault, did not appear in court.
The magistrate stayed an arrest warrant until 16 Aug.
Next up was Andrew Deveroix Benjamin, who faces one count of obtaining property by deception, three counts of obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception and one count of theft.
He was bailed to appear in Grand Court on 18 Aug.
Derrick Osney Bush, who faces two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, was bailed to appear in Grand Court on 18 Aug.
Nicholas Ricardo Miller, who has been charged with engaging in gainful occupation without a work permit, will reappear in Summary Court on 21 Aug.

Please Cayman courts, let’s not release people arrested for allegedly committing violent crimes. Instead keep them locked up and bring them to trial quickly.
