Caymanian sailors Ciara Murphy and Jaspar Nielsen breezed through the waves on the south coast of Hampshire, England during the UK ILCA Open and National Championships, en route to two podium placements.
The regatta, which was held 19-25 Aug. in varying conditions at Hayling Island Sailing Club, featured the pair winning gold and bronze.
Murphy, 15, sailed against 73 other sailors in the ILCA 4 class, finishing fourth overall, second in the under-16 category and taking first female after scoring 49.0.
“It was a tough event and a lot was learned,” Murphy told the Compass in an email, noting that her best races enabled her to earn the female trophy. “Overall, I was very happy with how the racing went for both Jaspar and I.”
Nielsen, 17, finished third overall and second in the U18 category with a score of 42.0. The two sailors, representing the Cayman Islands Sailing Club, competed in 12 races over six days.
