The nomination deadline for the 2024 National Heroes Day honours has been extended to Sunday, 22 Oct.

According to a government press release, the extension is to accommodate additional submissions.This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating our Cultural Artists and Creatives’.

It recognises individuals and groups whose creative work integrates, preserves, brings awareness and educates on Caymanian culture and heritage through various artistic fields.

The three categories are Cherished Classics, Cultural Luminary and Cultural Heritage Groups.

To be nominated for Cherished Classics, an individual must have produced artistic and creative work prior to 1960.

The work must strictly aim to integrate, preserve, bring awareness to and educate on the culture and heritage of the Cayman Islands.

And they must remain popular, cherished and appreciated across multiple generations for their artistic and creative work.

To be nominated for Cultural Luminary, an individual must have evidently dedicated 20+ years of consistent excellence through their artistic and creative work.

Their work must strictly aim to integrate, preserve, bring awareness to and educate on Cayman’s culture and heritage.

And they must have received an award by an accredited and recognised body in Cayman or internationally for their artistic and creative work reflecting Cayman’s culture and heritage.

To be nominated for Cultural Heritage Groups, a group must have evidently dedicated 20+ years of consistent excellence through their artistic and creative work.

They must also have produced work which strictly aims to integrate, preserve, bring awareness to and educate on Cayman’s culture and heritage.

And they must have produced artistic and creative work voluntarily within the Cayman Islands.

To submit a nomination or for nomination criteria the public can visit gov.ky/ysch and select the ‘Nominate for NHD’ icon.

Only fully completed nomination forms will be considered.
