LGBTQ+ group Colours Caribbean has a new president

Em DeCou has been appointed as the new president of Colours Caribbean – the first LGBTQ+ non-profit incorporated in Cayman.

The move, which will see DeCou head the Cayman branch, came as part of a regional expansion of the organisation, a press release said.

Founder Billie Bryan, who was the former president, is now global director, with the aim of expanding the group’s mission to other UK overseas territories.

Colours Caribbean’s legal advisor Leonardo Raznovich said in a press release, it is with “great pride” that the group announces its expansion.

He congratulated DeCou on her new position and said her community work for the LGBTQ+ community and her role as youth coordinator make her a good fit.

“She has demonstrated a justice-driven commitment to equal rights for all. There was no hesitation in recommending her to be appointed to president,” Raznovich added.

DeCou said she is “proud and excited to continue the work done in Cayman by our pioneering founder Billie Bryan, and to support our community through our resources”.

Colours Caribbean offers a safe space for young people Colours Community Centre which opened earlier this year.

The group provides diversity, equity and inclusion training, and sensitivity training along with workshops for local businesses and organisations.

It also offers guidance and resources to LGBTQ+ people looking for support, the press release said.
