Armed men carried out one successful robbery and three attempted robberies in Grand Cayman on Friday evening, 3 Nov.
On whether police believe all four incidents are related, a police spokesperson told the Compass investigations are in the early stages but they are looking at “all possibilities”.
Two people approached police officers on patrol on Andresen Road in West Bay just after 11pm, in the last of Friday’s four incidents.
They appeared to have been injured, and told officers they had just been the victims of a robbery, police said in a press release.
They said they had just left a residence when two men, dressed in black, one of whom was carrying a gun, attacked them.
A struggle ensued, during which both victims received head injuries from being struck, possibly with the firearm or another object.
The culprits then fled on foot with stolen cash and personal items. No shots were fired.
The officers conducted preliminary medical treatment on one of the victims, after which emergency services arrived and continued care.
Both were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries, and subsequently discharged.
Attempted robberies
Three attempted robberies had taken place earlier in the same evening.
No one was injured during the raids, no shots were fired, and nothing was stolen.
Police received a report of the first incident at a restaurant on North Sound Road, north of Shedden Road, just after 6:40pm.
Three masked men, one carrying a gun, entered the establishment, a press release said.
Upon seeing the men, a worker ran towards the rear of the restaurant. The men then fled.
The suspect with the gun was about 5 fee, 6 inches tall, slim, with a dark complexion, was wearing all black, including a black hoodie and shoes, and carrying a black handgun.
The second suspect was about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, slim, and was wearing a black hoodie, a white mask and white slippers.
The third suspect was slim, wearing a black hoodie, dark-coloured jeans, sneakers, and was carrying a green bag, police said.
Shortly after the first raid, police received a report of another attempted robbery outside a business on Shedden Road, just east of Mary Street.
A security officer had exited an armoured truck when two men dressed in dark clothing and hoodies, one with a black handgun, approached him.
The security officer immediately walked towards a nearby police car, and when they saw the car, the two men fled the location, the press release said.
One of the men was slim and about 5’11” tall, and the second man was about 6’2” and of a medium build, according to the witness.
Then, just before 8pm the same night, police responded to a report of an attempted robbery at a business on Bodden Town Road, east of Cumber Avenue.
The press release said a man had entered the location, brandished a gun, and demanded cash.
The gunman was challenged by the owner of the business, who threatened him with a machete. The gunman fled.
The suspect was dressed in all black, with a black hoodie and a black mask, and was carrying a black handgun, police said.
