Cayman’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony will be held this Sunday at the Cenotaph outside Elmslie Memorial United Church in George Town.
The event is set to start promptly at 10:45am, a Government Information Services statement said, adding that attendees and participants are asked to be seated by 10:30am.
The public holiday to mark Remembrance Day will be observed on Monday, 13 Nov.
Sunday’s ceremony will encompass a religious service, including the solemn laying of wreaths and a parade by the uniformed services, according to the release.
Acting Governor Franz Manderson will take the royal salute at this year’s parade, which will comprise the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the Cayman Islands Regiment, Cayman Islands Fire Service, His Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service, Cayman Islands Coast Guard, Girls’ Brigade Cayman Islands, Cayman Islands Scouts and Cub Scouts, Cayman Islands Cadet Corps and Seventh Day Pathfinders.
In accordance with tradition, attendees are encouraged to wear poppies, the enduring symbol of remembrance and respect.
Poppies are available at the Government Administration Building on Grand Cayman and the District Administration Building on Cayman Brac.
The Cayman Islands Veterans Association will also have poppies available at the event.
Temporary road closures will be in place to facilitate the ceremony.
