Several roads will be closed during the upcoming Pirates Week Festival, over the next two weekends, and for Remembrance Day on Sunday, 12 Nov., police have announced.
The following roads will be closed for Pirates Week festivities:
Friday to Monday, 10-13 Nov.: Albert Panton Street and the eastern section of Cardinall Avenue will be closed from 6pm on Friday, 10 Nov. to 6am on Monday, 13 Nov.
Saturday, 11 Nov.: From 1pm to 8pm, Seafarers Way will be closed between Warwick Drive and Fort Street. The intersections of Seafarers Way with Goring Avenue and Shedden Road will also be closed during these times.
Monday, 13 Nov.: From 4pm to 6pm, Seafarers Way will be closed between Goring Avenue and Cardinall Avenue, and the intersection of Seafarers Way at Shedden Road will also be closed.
Thursday to Sunday, 16-19 Nov.: Albert Panton Street and the eastern section of Cardinall Avenue will be closed from 6am on 16 Nov. to 6pm on 19 Nov.
Saturday, 18 Nov.: From 3pm to 8pm, Seafarers Way will be closed between Warwick Drive and Fort Street. The intersections of Seafarers Way with Goring Avenue and Shedden Road will also be closed at those times.
The following roads will be closed for Remembrance Day:
Seafarers Way, between Goring Avenue and Fort Street, will be closed to facilitate the Remembrance Day parade on Sunday, between 6am and 1pm.
There will also be rolling closures at the following junctions beginning at 10:15am:
- Elgin Avenue and Hospital Road
- Elgin Avenue and Louise Llewellyn Way
- Elgin Avenue and Shedden Road
The parade will travel from the George Town Police Station to Elmslie Memorial United Church, and then back to the George Town Police Station, and each junction will be re-opened after the parade passes.
Police are advising motorists to exercise caution when travelling in these areas during these times, and to obey any traffic signs, barriers, or instructions from officers present.
