The Cayman Islands badminton team defeated Jamaica for the first time in the history of the sport.
In several matches held at the Kingston arena, the Cayman men’s team defeated the Jamaicans in the men’s doubles final.
In an exhilarating, high stakes performance, Cayman won the first game 21/19, lost the second game 19/21 but finally overpowered the Jamaican and Caribbean champions 21/17 with a spectacular display of both skill and perseverance.
“We are very proud of our achievements to date, and beating the Jamaicans is a huge achievement, an icing on the cake,” Don Calloo, president of the Cayman Islands Badminton Club told the Compass.
Calloo added that he plans to ascend the badminton association to even greater heights for 2024, noting the plan is to give every Caymanian child the opportunity to learn and excel in the sport and to represent these islands on the world stage.
