Members of the public have until 10 Jan. to view architect drawings for a proposed 10-storey apartment block in the heart of Grand Cayman’s capital.
The plans by Arco Architectural Services – which the Compass does not have permission to reproduce – show the various perspectives of the large building on Boilers Road.
Just a short walk from the Cayman Islands National Museum, George Town Harbour or the town centre will take people to ‘The Eldemire’ – if it is granted planning approval.
The drawings were made available on the Department of Planning website for public inspection for 21 days, as stipulated by the Development and Planning Act and Regulations.
They will form part of a planning application, which will later go to the Central Planning Authority for discussion and a decision.
Developer Legoland Real Estate, which was recently granted permission to build 12 apartment blocks costing $12 million in West Bay, is behind the proposed development.
The site plan shows the layout of the 130-foot high building which will be on a 1.5-acre plot and will contain 162 one- and two-bedroom apartments – a total of 189 bedrooms.
The apartments will range in size from 950 and 1,499 square foot, and the building will be a total of 276,043 square foot with 251 parking spaces and a rooftop pool, deck and gym.
A number of 10-storey proposals were presented to the Central Planning Authority this year.
They included an apartment block on West Bay Road, a redevelopment of the Aqua Bay Club in West Bay, and an extension to The Westin.
Plans for the 10-storey three building Lacovia development also moved forward, with developers suggesting the old resort would be demolished this year.
