Damian Marley to headline Capella

Get ready to jam to the reggae rhythms of Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, the headlining act at this year’s Capella Music Festival.

Set for 27 April, the one-day music fest returns to the Festival Green at Camana Bay, with a stellar line-up of local and international artists.

Damian, the youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley, is a four-time Grammy award winner known for his electrifying stage presence and unique gift of blending dancehall, reggae and hiphop styles.

“We are thrilled to have Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley headlining the Capella Music Festival,” says Kenny Rankin, the festival’s managing director. “His music resonates with people from all walks of life, and we believe his performance will be a defining moment in the history of our festival.”

MAKING HISTORY

In 2002, Damian won the Grammy for best reggae album for “Halfway Tree”. He made history at the 2006 Grammys when he became the first reggae artist to win two Grammys in the same ceremony. He won best reggae album for “Welcome to Jamrock” and best urban/alternative performance for the album’s title track. His fourth solo album, “Stony Hill” won best reggae album at the 2017 Grammys.

Damian has worked with many high-profile artists, including Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, Gwen Stefani and Nas. He recently teamed up with Killer Mike for a new reggae influenced version of the rap superstar’s “Run”.

He also joined forces with his brother Stephen “Ragga” Marley for a multi-city jaunt across North America. Their Traffic Jam Tour, which wrapped up at the end of March, followed on the heels of the release of the new Bob Marley biopic, “One Love”.

Damian will be joined by other acts such as Nigerian Afrobeats artist Ayra Starr, American pop-rock artist Richard Marx and Barbados’ DJ Puffy.
