A 14-member jury has been selected for the murder trial of defendant Bryan Roy Welcome, accused of driving over and killing his informal business partner during a heated dispute that turned physical.

Welcome, 42, of Bodden Town, faces a single murder charge, which he denies, in relation to the July 2023 killing of Omar Ryan, 34, a Jamaican national who resided in North Side.

Ryan died after being hit by an SUV off of Robert Foster Drive in the vicinity of George Town Yacht Club shortly after 8:20pm on 8 July.

Welcome and Ryan are said to have had an informal business partnership where Ryan would provide Welcome with produce for resale.

“I’ve known him for decades,” said one friend, who asked not to be named. “We are from the same community in Mocho and from then until now, he has always been the same person who just wanted to see people around him happy and not fighting.”

The jury, already sworn in, was told to return Monday 13 May to begin the murder trial proceedings.

Welcome, who was arrested by police a short time after the incident, remains in custody pending the outcome of the trial.
