Devon Emmanuel Wright Jr. has pleaded not guilty to the murder and abduction of 2-year-old Alissady Powell.

The toddler’s body was found on the ironshore on the south side of Cayman Brac on the morning of 26 July 2022, after she had been reported missing a few hours earlier.

Wright, 33, appeared before the Grand Court on Friday, 3 Oct., via video-link from prison, where he remains remanded in custody.

His lawyer, Jonathon Hughes, told the court Wright’s trial is likely to last four weeks.

Several expert witnesses are expected to testify, the court heard, with the Crown bringing eight to nine experts to the stand. Hughes said it was too early at this point to say how many experts the defence would be bringing.

Justice Cheryll Richards set the trial to begin on 20 July next year, which is the earliest date lead counsel for the case will be available.

Meanwhile, a case management hearing will be held on 1 May.
