Creative artists across the Cayman Islands are set to unite this month to celebrate Caymanian art through several pop-up exhibitions, bus tours, panel discussions, workshops and special events during the fourth annual Cayman Art Week, to be held 22-26 May.

Cayman Art Week was born in response to the challenges artists were experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown.

“This will be our biggest year yet with 15 galleries, 11 studios, and 14 pop-up exhibitions,” according to a CAW press release. “From painting and pottery to installations and interventions, Cayman Art Week showcases the broad range of creative venues and talented artists.”

During the annual initiative, the public will have free access to various venues, with many artists in attendance.

Natalie Urquhart, founder of Cayman Art Week, pointed to why the initiative is special. “The creative use of both established art venues and the non-traditional spaces to exhibit art is part of what makes Cayman Art Week so interesting for both experiences collectors and newcomers.”

Last year’s Art Week was “nothing short of spectacular”, local artist and gallery owner Jason Kennedy told the Compass,. “Our work was seen by countless appreciators and serious buyers. Cayman Art Week is not only important for artists, it gives the community a connection to the creative culture that keeps evolving into an exciting part of our zeitgeist. We are looking forward to participating again this year.”
