Two dead in overnight crash

Two people died after a BMW crashed into a wall on Shamrock Road in the early hours of Monday.

The crumpled vehicle was visible in the roadway Monday morning, as police examined the crash scene, close to the junction with Spotts Newlands Road.

Police confirmed in a statement that the driver and passenger of the BMW had died following the collision, which occurred around 2.15am.

“Two occupants of the vehicle, one male and one female, were extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital where they were pronounced deceased by the attending doctor,” the RCIPS said in a statement.

A section of Shamrock Road was closed, with westbound traffic, heading towards George Town, diverted through Hirst Road and along the East West Arterial Highway. Eastbound traffic was being diverted along Spotts Newlands Road.
