When Tedrick Green founded his fragrance venture in 2007, many cautioned he was wasting his time and money.
But now he has not only developed a thriving company but has left his job in the financial services industry to focus full-time on Ted Green, the business, as CEO and perfume creation director. “Perfume is now my life,” he says.
TRANSITION
Tedrick recently made the move to coincide with the launch of his latest fragrance, Ghost Orchid, named after the rare plant found in Grand Cayman, which blooms in spring.
“It took tremendous effort to manage my career as a director at one of the world’s largest investor services firms, alongside chasing the vision to grow the first luxury fragrance house in the Caribbean,” he says.
“The decision to transition was really born of necessity considering how busy we are, which we anticipated and prepared for.”
CAYMAN-INSPIRED
Ted Green is a line of luxury Caribbean-inspired perfumes, with the company also selling candles and diffusers. Born and raised in George Town, where he still resides, Tedrick was drawn to create the fragrances in response to his passion for Cayman’s natural beauty and culture.
“Cayman has an energy, simplistic natural beauty, and cultural kindness, of which I’m still enthralled,” he says. “Ted Green remains dedicated to creating authentic and representative experiences that help tell some of our stories.”
And Tedrick is proud that the company is flourishing despite the discouraging advice he received at the outset.
“Many doubted the viability of our vision, essentially questioning our ability to succeed,” he recalls. “In retrospect, not only have we been doing it for over 15 years, but we are now at a point where we are doing it with acclaim, and building recognition not only locally, but globally.”
As he leads the company, which has two employees and a roster of freelancers, consultants, ambassadors, and models, Tedrick’s role is to set the vision and mission for the company. He mobilises the team to ensure their goals are met.
INTEGRITY AND DISCIPLINE
This takes focus and unwavering commitment, with his motto that integrity is non-negotiable. “Discipline, paired with a lovely glass of sacrifice, is the entrepreneurial way,” he says.
A firm adherent to health and wellness practices, Tedrick heads to the gym in his downtime, as well as catching up with family and friends at the weekends. He is also something of a fashion aficionado and an avid traveller and ‘foodie’.
“Our success as a brand affirms the market’s desire for what we offer,” he says. “People are ready to embrace Caribbean excellence outside of the accepted arenas of sports and entertainment.
“I am humbled, honoured and immensely motivated to continue pushing the boundaries, challenging perceptions, and showcasing the possibilities inherent in our culture”.
