Golfer Holly McLean was victorious at the first event in the 2024 Grant Thornton Summer Series, held 13-20 July at the North Sound Golf Club.

The tournament took place over three rounds with a field of top local amateur golfers competing for official World Amateur Golf Ranking, but it was the decorated McLean who edged out a win in the overall division.

“We saw a strong field of prominent local and international golfers, including our own Caymanian ambassador Holly McLean,” Greg O’Driscoll, of title sponsor Grant Thornton Cayman Islands, told the Compass.

By one stroke, McLean bested Giles Hobday who finished runner-up. Tracy Moore came first in the senior division ahead of Glenn Whewell. In the non-ranked division, Todd Purton finished first with Clark Weatherall taking second.

“A huge congratulations to all winners and runners-up,” O’Driscoll added. “We look forward to seeing our local golfers strengthen their official WAGR rankings throughout the series as part of our goal to develop sport in the Cayman Islands.”
