Caymanian sailor Charlotte Webster continues to improve her position as she races in the Bay of Marseille, France.
After making her first appearance at the Olympics on Thursday, 1 Aug., finishing 41st in the women’s dinghy event, Webster returned on Friday, 2 Aug, improving by one spot in her first two races.
Her competition began with a schedule of two races per day to reach a total of 10, but her second race on Thursday was postponed due to a lack of wind at Marseille Marina, meaning Webster needed to prepare for three races on Friday.
However, after completing two races on Friday, her final race was again postponed due to weather. That means Races 4-6 are now scheduled for Saturday, 3 Aug.
“Today was a pretty long day,” Webster said. “Again, we started three races and it was, again, a very shifty course and the wind wasn’t doing what it was forecast to do, which made it difficult.
“I did have some good moments in the races, but it was very close and results-wise I didn’t do how I wanted to.”
After her first race, Webster noted to the Compass that she wanted to move forward in her next races, which so far she has done, despite her not being please with her current position.
In her first two races on Friday, Webster moved up one position to 40th, followed by a 39th-place finish.
The fourth race, is now scheduled for 5:05 am Cayman time, with races five and six scheduled to follow the conclusion of race four.
“I think tomorrow will definitely be a better day,” Webster said
Should Webster qualify for the medal race, that competition will take place on 6 Aug.
Webster’s third race for today is scheduled for 5:05 pm Cayman time.
