I found it so disheartening to read of the scrapping of the proposed landfill disposal project. How, after seven-plus years and so many dollars invested, can’t the government and [private sector] come to a solution for what is clearly a problem of magnitude?
It feels like the government is stuck in ‘discussions’ on speeding and deaths on the highways, strict and necessary drunk-driving laws, and beach vendors licences.
I’ve loved Cayman for 30 years and started coming because my family and I loved the people, the simplicity and a brief departure from the US and what it has become. Somebody should have said to all of us: “Bigger is not always better”.
Things have changed so much on the island that I can only hope that a government with vision, hindsight and a penchant for getting the right things done will emerge [but it is] probably too late.
