Cayman is set to host its first-ever international beauty competition, the 20th annual Miss Global International pageant, on Sunday, 13 Oct., at Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman.
“The Cayman Islands will serve as the stunning new backdrop for the prestigious Miss Global International 2024 pageant,” the international organisation posted to social media on 2 Aug.

Cayman was named after the original host, Bali, Indonesia, was unable to hold the event “due to unforeseen circumstances”, the organisation said, noting, “It is with both regret and excitement that we announce a change in the Host Country for the highly-anticipated 20th Annual Miss Global International Pageant!”
Over 25 representatives from across the globe competing for the title. The international pageant said they’re committed to its motto of ‘Uniting the World through Beauty and Tourism’. Catherine Tyson-Sewell, director for Miss Global International Cayman Islands, told the Cayman Compass, she is “thrilled” to bring the first international pageant here.
“Everything happened so fast and there was no way to turn down this amazing opportunity for our country’s name on the pageant circuit.”
With the pageant celebrating its 20th anniversary, “it just made sense for it to be here amongst our Caymankind”, Tyson-Sewell said. “We are a force to be reckoned with and now we get a chance for the world to see it through the eyes of these lovely delegates.”

Caitlin Tyson, who is the second representative of the local franchise and Tyson-Sewell’s daughter, told the Compass being the national titleholder “is so much more than a crown to me”.
“It’s an opportunity to connect with amazing people, champion worthy initiatives and to mentor and learn from others while showcasing the power of sisterhood to the world.
“This is the first international pageant to grace our shores, and it is history in the making. This is so monumental and I’m so happy to be a part of it. I’m looking forward to greeting my pageant sisters and putting my best foot forward as I represent our beautiful islands.”
Tyson-Sewell, who is also the franchise holder for Miss Global International Philippines 2024, confirmed for the first time that a Filipina contestant, who resides in the Cayman Islands, will also be competing.
“I’m so thankful to represent the Philippines in … the Cayman Islands,” Britney Quiz, Miss Global International Philippines 2024 told the Compass.
“It is so surreal to be in this position and I’m honoured to have been chosen by my community. To have this opportunity for the pageant to be here is such a blessing, and I look forward to making the Philippines and Cayman proud.”
Christin Coeppicus, of Trinidad and Tobago, who is Miss Global International 2023, will crown her successor on the night.
