Breakfast & drive-time with Ben Maxwell

A new radio voice is making waves on air this year.

Ben Maxwell.

Ben Maxwell has taken over slots on two Compass Media radio stations, hosting Ben’s Bigger Breakfast on Gold FM, and the afternoon drive-time show on Rooster FM.

But although his voice might be new to listeners, it’s the second time that the Baltimore native has called Cayman his home.

Ben previously worked for the company when it was Cayman Free Press, as a staffer on the Caymanian Compass, which the newspaper was named at that time.

After leaving in 2013 following a seven-year stint on the island, it was more than a decade before Ben and his wife Jennifer returned.

“It took us 11 years and four other countries to make it back to the place that stole our hearts,” he says.

“Since leaving Cayman, we’ve lived in Seoul, Denver, Amsterdam and, most recently, Doha. So, I’ve worked in radio literally all over the globe.

“As a result, we have quite a few odd choices for our favourite sports teams (Go Orioles, Go Eagles, Go Red Devils, Go Avs, Go Oranje).”

Ben and Jennifer are delighted to be back in Cayman, along with their dogs Rooney, a Maltese-mix from East End, and Brooklyn, a Pomeranian adopted from Seoul.

“All four of us are very excited to be continuing our adventure in Cayman,” says Ben.

“Sure, things have changed since we left… new buildings, new restaurants and businesses, but that’s just on the surface. The same generous and loving folks we knew back then are still here today.”

Ben’s favourite songs, which you are likely to hear on his breakfast show, include greatest hits such as:

‘Summertime’ by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince

‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers

‘Stomp’ by The Brothers Johnson

‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley

‘Dancing in the Dark’ by The Boss, Bruce Springsteen.

On Rooster, Ben will be spinning country classics such as his favourites:

‘No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem’ by Kenny Chesney

‘Fast Car’ by Luke Combs

‘You’re Still the One’ by Shania Twain

‘Goodbye Earl’ by the Dixie Chicks

Pretty much anything by Johnny Cash

Ben can be heard on Gold FM hosting Ben’s Bigger Breakfast from 6-10am, weekdays. He also hosts the drive-time afternoon show on Rooster FM weekdays from 3-7pm. He can be found on social media at @benmaxwellonair.
